Psalm 37:4
“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
Most people think the main point of this verse is that we will get the desires of our heart. But I believe the Lord’s ultimate desire from this verse is that we would delight ourselves in Him. Are you delighting yourself in the Lord? I believe that when the things of this world have so much of our attention, we aren’t really delighting ourselves in the Lord. Because if we were then we would never look any where else for delight or pleasure. He is the ultimate source! What do you delight in? Why do you delight in it? We delight in things like TV, movies, magazines or games. But why? So that we can laugh at a TV show, or cry at a movie or know the fashions and fads? God desires to satisfy us for eternity. So that we don’t have to look for delight in other things.
He does want to give us the desires of our hearts. But if we are delighting ourselves in the Lord, then our desires will no longer be for the things of this world, but they will be for the things of His Kingdom! So of course He will want to give them to us! They are His desires! He wants a people who will delight in Him and seek His heart and His desires. Because they are the best things. He knows best, after all, He is God! He knows everything and He created everything. We have to trust Him that He knows what He is doing!
Make us a people who delight in You God! Let nothing else hold our attention or affection unless it leads us to delighting in You! You are the only one worthy!
